iPads in a First Grade Reading Center Surpass My Expectations

Reading is the most important skill for a child to be successful in school from my personal experience. But how can you make it super fun to inspire kids to want to read more? Introduce the iPad. I am a huge fan of the 1-1 iPad classroom in grades three through eight. To best use limited funds, I believe that for the earliest grades, Pre-Kinder through 2nd grade, a set of 5-8 iPads is invaluable. This month I got the wonderful opportunity to help setup a small first grade group focused on reading - reading to self or reading along. These little tikes are enormously entertaining and remind me how to have fun. Here's a few photos I took to capture and share the learning.

The reading center included writing a two or more sentences. In the students' reading journals they entered the date and the following:
Today I listened to _________.
One thing I learned was __________.
The more advance students continued to write additional sentences and provide details. Really really nice job by all the students.
